Happy New Year 2018
Happy New Year Everyone.
I’ll keep this short, because you’ve all got better things to do than sped the first day of the year reading my thoughts on life.
No Goal For 2018 Yet?
If you don’t have a theme or goal for the next year, I’ll pick one for you.
Make gaining autonomy your goal for the next year (and hopefully every year after that.)
This is a simple goal that benefits everyone. The more choices you have, the better your life is likely to be.
The less choice you have, the more you’re at the whim of whatever life throws at you.
Life is going to throw stuff at you regardless. It’s your responsibility to yourself to fix yourself up so that you have a hope of being ready for said stuff.
As such, you need to concentrate and put yourself in the best position you can.
Over the last couple of years, here’s what I’ve noticed.
A Lot Of People Drawn Into Battles They Can’t Win…
I know, I said I’d keep this short. But over the past couple of years, I’ve seen people drawn into battles they can’t win.
How do I know this?
Because there’ve been people I know who’ve abandoned their own goals, lifestyles and ideals in favour of “spreading the word” or otherwise getting embroiled with big picture stuff.
Far be it from me to tell anyone about their political inclinations, but in terms of personal autonomy, this approach is a losing approach.
You have a limited amount of time. It’s up to you whether you spend it getting fitter or writing about how soy is turning the frogs gay.
One of those things will make you healthier, one won’t.
You have a limited attention span. The more you think about stuff you can’t change, the less attention you devote to things that you can change.
Here’s the real kicker though…
You Can Fix Most Of Your Own Problems And Build A Great Life For Yourself
We’re all riding waves of political turmoil. There are tons of big issues that will affect your life. We’re all in the survival business right now.
But most of your problems can be fixed or at least mitigated by your own action. Most of your goals – assuming you have realistic goals like a happy and healthy life – are achievable.
Many different agendas are going to fight for control of your most important resources: your time, attention and power. If you allow them to have those things, then unsurprisingly, you’ll feel you have no time, no power and no attention.
If instead you devote those resources to battles that you can choose, win and which will allow you an advantage in further battles, then you will – again, unsurprisingly – win more and feel better.
If you want to get healthy, then eat healthier food and exercise.
When you feel that you need more money, you should get more money – preferably in the ways we describe here – where you’re not beholden to a boss or other organisation.
If you want to make the world a better place, be kinder to those around you and help them where you can.
Final Thoughts
It’s the start of a New Year and hopefully everyone is taking steps to make their life better.
This site is designed to give ideas, tools and systems so that you can take more control over your life, mind and business. Check out this comment by Anon1 just yesterday:
If you’re reading, enjoying and using the stuff I write to turn yourself from someone ravaged by the tides of life to someone who builds things and makes a difference, then that’s fantastic and a sort-of meta-goal what I’m trying to achieve here.
Anyway, go and enjoy yourselves.
Here’s to 2018!
