Niche Site Challenge Week 12
It’s week 12 of the niche site challenge.
For those of you who have come to this article with no idea what I’m talking about, the niche site challenge is:
- A part time challenge built around building niche websites
- A challenge where people agree to undertake said goal of building niche websites
- The idea is to create websites which are based around sales letters/product reviews
- They are designed to give you ongoing, passive income from said sales letters
- No cheating, creating your own products, buying traffic or other hijinks that’d disrupt the results
That’s the gist of it.
This is my weekly roundup of my challenge, random thoughts and other articles from the week that may be useful in pursuing your challenge.
What I’ve Done In The Niche Site Challenge This Week
I’m not going to lie to you guys.
I’ve done next-to-nothing this week as regards niche sites and the niche site challenge.
I can’t even remember what I said I’d do from last week without checking. Here’s the abbreviated list of what I did do:
- I finished up some keyword research for some new sites
- I planned out a set of posts for one of the first niche sites I did, and then promptly forgot about it
- I felt guilty about not doing anything for the challenge at various idle moments
All in all, I probably spent about an hour this week on the challenge. My attention was simply elsewhere. Hopefully though, you’ve been doing better.
Random Thoughts
Here are some random thoughts about niche sites that I’ve had this week.
Idea Generation: Just Look For Expensive, Invisible Stuff
In the past few updates, I’ve created a list of different places that you could find inspiration for niche sites that wouldn’t be too unrealistic.
This week, I figured I’d go for a more general bit of advice.
When you’re out and about or watching TV, look for items that are invisible but cost a reasonable amount of money.
Everyone wants to write about cool stuff. Last year, it was e-cigarettes. There are a ton of niche sites every year about computer games.
You’re thinking too cool if that’s what you’re going for.
Think about things like vacuum cleaners. Or replacement parts. Sure, they aren’t exciting, but there’s virtually no competition and there’ll probably be great returns on writing simple reviews.
Keyword Research Optimisation
Ideally, you need to optimise your keyword research (if you’re going to do any.)
I don’t know about the keyword planner tool that Google provides 9which most guys use) but in Market Samurai, you can manually enter your keywords in bulk.
I wish I’d thought of this sooner, but you could easily reduce your time spent on keyword research by having standard templates for common search terms which you insert your keywords into.
Best [product]
Cheap [product]
How does [product] work?
Best resources for [niche]
That sort of thing is obviously not going to be a complete solution, but if you can use it for even a small percentage of your keyword research, it’ll save you time and effort.
Other Articles About Niche Sites
James posted an article about niche sites and their place in a person’s business plans.
I agree with it. I think that there are a ton of reasons to build niche sites that aren’t money related or business related. I’m also not sure about the idea of creating a “niche site business.” I think it’s probably possible to earn a lot of money – perhaps even full-time money – building niche sites, but if you’re doing that, you have to add up the pros and cons of doing that versus doing something else. There are definitely more profitable ventures out there.
Speaking of which, James also left a comment on another article I wrote. It’s of interest to other niche site challengers because it talks about using niche site money to funnel into other ventures. This is a great idea if you’re feeling unmotivated by niche sites or you want a reason for building niche sites in general.
I didn’t really write any niche site focused articles this week. However, you might want to check out this article on posting to your website every day.
Final Thoughts
Another week done, although, not much occurred within this week, for me at least. As always, you should let me know in the comments.
We’ll be hitting the quarter point in just over a week’s time, as three months have gone since we started. Time flies!
