Niche Site Sales Letters: Other Things You’ll Add

This is going to be a relatively quick post. Yesterday I wrote an update for the niche site challenge, and I was struggling for things to write. Naturally, the minute I hit “Publish” and went on with other stuff, a thought for a post came to me.

This post is a collection of things that you should get in a row before you start a sales letter for your niche sites (or any sites really.) It’s a pain in the backside to do these things when you’re working, and it’s a pain when you think you’ve finished an article only to have to go back and do these things.

Multimedia

I uploaded a big post yesterday for one of my niche sites. It was great, but at 2,000 words long, it was a big read.

I could have shortened it, but I am aiming to rank for the “What is the best X?” keyword, so I wanted an in-depth article.

The only other way to get a good readability with so many words is to add words and pictures. Luckily, between Amazon and my own photographs, I had plenty of images. Unfortunately, mine were still on my camera and Amazon’s were still on their server as opposed to in a handy folder.

This process took about five minutes, but it was a pain to do it after I’d finished the writing. Get some images and know which ones you’re going to put in which section before you start writing. It’ll help.

PRO TIP: Most companies have YouTube videos of their products. Don’t be afraid to embed those. Readers love videos, and it helps your site look great, plus it’s not like the company is going to mind you linking their promo video to sell their product.

Affiliate Links

Affiliate links are the bane of the world. Usually, they’ve got some stupid code. Amazon is a pain because they have multiple different codes for multiple areas – you can’t just be a “global Amazon affiliate.”

Whilst there are global amazon link plugins, in general they’re pretty horrible or they take a hefty cut of your affiliate money.

What this means is that you have to do the old-fashioned copy-paste with each of your links or just post to Amazon.com.

It’s better to do this ahead of time so you aren’t scrambling around for your affiliate link in the idle of writing a call-to-action.

Links to Other Posts and Products

Just like the affiliate links, you’ll want to have an idea of which posts you can also link to when you’re writing. For the most part, you don’t want your reader to click anywhere other than the “Buy Now” link you’re providing, but sometimes you need to… and sometimes you’ll want to.

For instance, you don’t want to bore someone with shipping information when they’re buzzed to buy an item. A clickable link is a good way to do this.

Or, you might be talking about a premium $500 product… and want to suggest some readers try the budget $100 version, which you’ve helpfully reviewed elsewhere.

Or you might have a “helpful how-to” category for when they’ve bought the product.

Those things are good to link to and make your website look like a “real” website as opposed to a dastardly sales letter series.

But you want to link to them in a careful and controlled manner, otherwise you’re working on the fly whilst writing and you’ll over-link and waste time.

Final Thoughts

Like I’ve said, short article today. These things all come under the “boring stuff” that we don’t want to think about. However, when we’re creating niche sites, we don’t want them to be a labour of love and we don’t want them to take forever.

Lining all my information up is something I do when I’m freelance writing in order to make the process go quicker and smoother. Why would you make life more difficult for yourself when you’re working for your piggy bank and not someone else’s?
