Niche Site Challenge Week 8 Updates, Thoughts, Etc.
Hopefully, everyone who is reading this builds, wants to build and plans to build their own niche sites.
This is my latest weekly niche site update for the niche site challenge.
For those of you who’ve managed to find your way to this article and are unaware of what the niche site challenge is, I’ll sum it up for you quickly:
- The goal is to create as many high quality niche sites as possible
- Those niche sites are designed to give you income equivalent to a professional salary
- BUT you can only do the niche site challenge as a part time hobby; it’s not a full-time job
It’s pretty straightforward.
The weekly updates you’ll see on this site are my diary as to what and how I’m doing when it comes to building niche websites.
What I’ve Done This Week
Last week, I switched from trying to work on my site every day to spending a day working on the niche site challenge.
This week, I haven’t had much time for sitting and creating niche websites in terms of content. I was elsewhere occupied.
However, one thing that’s great about this new “one day” approach is that in my downtime I sat and planned as and when I had time with no pressure in terms of a daily amount.
I came up with a ton of great ideas – and then I accidentally stumbled across a great idea, which I’ll discuss in the next section.
Also, I realised that a podcast I’ve listened to for years could be a great idea to go to when it comes to creating niche websites later on in the year. It covers a lot of topics, some of which are going to be enough to write 20-50 articles about.
Today, I’m catching up on my niche site day. I’m working on what will be niche site #6. It’s not done, but it will be. I’ve got a few keywords and now I’m just mulling over which products to target. I’ll need to buy them and then review them by the time the site goes live.
Thoughts on Creating Niche Websites: Sometimes You Get Lemonade
I try to copy people who know what they’re talking about. So I keep an eye on people who are really creating niche websites as opposed to just blogging about them.
One guy I follow has just started a niche website in the travel niche. I found his new website the other day, and read through it. I then looked at the products he was promoting and the affiliate programs he was using.
It turns out that the various programs he is affiliated to have particular products for different countries. This is a gold mine.
A lot of guys are going to find an affiliate program and then do the obvious with it. You need to not do the bare minimum if you want better success than the average guy. I wrote about this earlier on in the week (see the links section below.)
Affiliate programs where you have multiple products that are essentially the same thing for different markets are great, because all the research and writing you do can be transposed.
So, the guy I mentioned – he’s got a travel site. He’s based in South-East Asia. I’ve never been to South-East Asia, so I can’t write about that (and be honest with my readers.) However, I can do exactly the same things he’s doing except for countries I’ve been to.
Occasionally, you’ll have one idea (or, someone else will have an idea) which you can take and use multiple times. Don’t miss out on those opportunities when they come along.
Another Thing About Creating Niche Websites: Elephants In Your Room
I mentioned above that I’ve been listening to a podcast for years. It’s got nothing to do with my writing or anything I do professionally, but I have it on in the background while I’m working sometimes.
A lightbulb moment struck me this week when I was listening; why don’t I create a niche site on this topic? After all, I’ve been a listener for years. I know the subject inside-out. I also know about a lot of products that I’d be reviewing, because I actually buy the products the podcaster recommends.
Essentially, I’m the customer and target market. I have the knowledge. Put the two together and there we go.
My point with this section is that a lot of people give up on creating niche websites because they can’t think of anything to create a niche website about. If this is you, then think about the things you’re interested in and see where you can review products. We all buy stuff, and we all have interests, so there must be something you can write about.

Final Thoughts
Another week done, and another niche site almost created. It’ll be two months down on the niche site challenge by the time I next update, so I’m hoping that everyone is seeing some progress. Let me know how your own projects with creating niche websites are going, and I’ll feature your thoughts in the next update!
