Niche Site Challenge Week 18

Daily Writing Blog, The Niche Site Challenge

Niche Site Saturday: Week Eighteen

It’s week eighteen of the niche site challenge.

Normally, I’d run down the challenge and what it involves, but you can read all about it here.

In this article, I’ll tell you what I’ve done this week, give you some random niche site related thoughts and finally give you some links to other useful information regarding niche websites.

Let’s get going.

What I’ve Done This Week

Yesterday Ispent my morning working on a new niche site. I found a new niche and looked up an existing niche site last week. It was a pretty bad site. The design was horrid, the product reviews were little more than “BUY THIS PRODUCT LINK BECAUSE I SAID SO” and it was all just a poorly executed cash grab.

I thought I could do better. So I looked up the best affiliate programs for the niche, planned out a few articles and started writing them.

I would have gotten the site up as well, but I had other things to do yesterday afternoon. Still, within the next few days, I’ll have another niche site done.

Random Thoughts: Sometimes, It’s Really Easy

The niche site I concentrated on yesterday was easy. I found a poorly designed niche site, took the theme and then put in a Google search for “Best X Affiliate Programs.” Someone had created a list of fifteen different affiliate programs.

That was the hard work done for me. Throw in a couple of minutes on Market Samurai, mindmap a handful of article titles and then get to writing.

The whole thing took me a couple of hours and I’ve got maybe a handful of other products I could promote at a later point. All that’s left is to do the dance of registering the domain and hosting, and then I’m practically done.

This was an easy niche site task. I’ve no doubt though that if I’d have thought about it, I would have made it more complicated in my head than it had to be. A lot of guys question their niche sites too much.

Remember, you’re waging $10 or so, and that’s not really a true win/lose bet.

Don’t overthink it. Do it and then worry afterwards. Except you’re probably not going to worry afterwards, having done it.

Random Thoughts: There’s Nothing Terrible About Checking Out The Competition

Sometimes, you’ll be doing some research and you’ll find that you’ve got a great idea with a lot of searches, but you won’t be able to find products or a hook point or something similar.

Sometimes, you’ll find that there are competitors who already have niche sites in your niche.

That’s not a reason to fear, and sometimes it can be a good thing.

There’s nothing wrong with looking around and seeing what offers other people are promoting.

There’s nothing wrong with looking at the tone and linguistic choices of other writers in your niche.

Ultimately, these things are only going to make the niche market better, because you’re researching what the market wants and how they like it delivered to them.

That’s a good thing.

Other Articles About Niche Sites From This Week

I wrote two articles this week that are pretty relevant to the niche site challenge. They are:

Both focus on idea generation, which is my favourite part of the whole thing. However, How To Start A Blog also takes you through technical things, like structuring a website and getting domains and hosting.

As always, drop any other articles you’ve found regarding niche sites in the comments, and I’ll be happy to add them.

Closing Thoughts

Another week done, almost another niche site done.

Hopefully, everyone is doing well with their niche sites.

Whether you are or not, let me know in the comments. Successes, failures, questions, answers. They’re all welcome here.

Until next week, keep going!
