Keep The Chain Alive
I don’t really have all that much time tonight; I unexpectedly got called away on errands and didn’t get back until late.
A few years ago, I discovered a habit-forming tool called chain-building (or something similar. It was on a long forgotten blog.)
The idea is simple in principle; you keep doing something once per day, every day until it becomes habit. You form a chain of consecutive days.
You’ll know it’s worked when you start to feel queasy when you think of going a day without doing your habit.
This is great for a lot of habits that writers and entrepreneurs need to do – like my Topic Of The Day posts on this site. I haven’t missed a day in 2016, and now I’m writing this, I’m still not going to have missed a day.
When you start a new habit, it’s best to make it a daily habit, or to change the new habit into something you can do something relating to every day.
For instance, say you want to get healthier. You might only be able to get to the gym three times a week. But it’s harder to keep a habit when you’re only doing it three times a week instead of every day. It takes longer for said habit to stick. So, you should do some physical activity every day, even if it’s simply taking a walk.
Anyhow, I’ll leave it for the day with this link. It’s to an app you can use to visualise keeping a chain going:
Of course, you could just do what I do and tick every day off in a diary or on a calendar.
Also, if this article is woefully short, you could also check my archives page. I’ve posted fourteen other times in February so far!
Oh, and don’t forget to check back tomorrow.
