Niche Site Saturday: The Challenge Week 9
It’s another niche site Saturday. The niche site challenge is in its ninth week. We’re two months down. Hopefully we’ve all built some niche sites and everything is going great.
This is going to be a short update with some thoughts I’ve had randomly, some links to other cool stuff and a quick update about what I’ve been doing. As always, you’re encouraged to leave comments about your own niche site building experiences!
Thoughts: Catalogues
I don’t know what the equivalent is elsewhere in the world, but in the UK we have an Argos catalogue. Argos is a store that is a cross between a mail order shop and a department store. It has thousands of products, and you can go and pick up a free catalogue from their stores with the majority of their products in it.
This is a great resource for if you’re stuck. Grab a department store catalogue. Thumb through it to see what £100 products you can find. Then run those product ideas through your keyword research/niche planning set up and see if you can base a niche site around them.
Thoughts: Timing of Posts
Some people wonder about how often they should post to their niche sites. James from Red pill Reviews summed it up quite nicely this week in a podcast. (Which I’ve linked below.)
It doesn’t really matter when you post to your sites, or how often. Ultimately, nobody is going to find your “best shoes online uk” niche website and make a decision based on how regularly you update it. People will find your niche site when they’re searching for relevant information, and they aren’t going to find it if that information isn’t there anyway so don’t worry.
If you only update your site once a week but you’re consistent, then that’s great; you’ll have 50 articles by the end of the year. If, on the other hand, you’re inspired and you write those fifty articles and post them all in one go and then never touch the website ever again, then that’s fine too.
Stuff I’ve Been Doing This Week
For the niche site challenge this week, I’ve opted not to create a new site or even try.
Instead, I’m going back to the five (and a half) niche sites I’ve started and been writing some more sales letters for those, as well as shoring up my plans for them; what I’m going to write, when I’m going to write it.
It’s not that exciting, but it all adds up.
Other Articles About Niche Sites From This Week
I wrote an article about marketing your niche blogs. Now, a lot of marketing isn’t necessary, and ultimately you shouldn’t waste your time doing it. That said, a lot of people get discouraged when their niche site doesn’t rank very well and doesn’t get much traffic. How To Market Your Niche Blog will help you with that.
Also, you might be interested in my article about writing for different audiences. It’s perfectly possible to write for different audiences with your niche sites and target things that you wouldn’t normally be interested in. Obviously, having some experience will help you write great sales copy, but you’ve always got to bear in mind that every audience requires a different approach.
Elsewhere on the web, you might want to check out this podcast by Kyle Trouble and James from Red Pill Reviews. It covers a lot of topics; with niche sites and general site building stuff being discussed in some detail. Give it a listen and check out their sites for helpful information.
Final Thoughts
Another week down, and another not so interesting week.
However, we’re six months through the year and two months through the niche site challenge, so no doubt you’ll be aware that it’s not the interesting stuff that makes you successful; it’s the cumulative nature of all the non-exciting stuff that adds up over time.
