Can Money-Making Success Be Achieved By Understanding This ONE Emotional State?

There are a few things that every money making scheme will have. It’ll provide a needed service, it’ll tap into people’s sense of identity, and it’ll give them hope – whether warranted or not – that they’ll gain some benefit. I’ve known this for a while. I’m sure you all know this as well; it’s hardly super-secret sales secrets.

Like the movie Inception, I’ve decided to go deeper.

Imagine if there were one thing you could analyse about any opportunity, person or product to unlock the secrets of that object and turn it into a money making machine?

Well, thanks to me and my crazy-scientist hat, this article is going to talk to you about that one thing, and how you can use it to make a ton of money, make people happy and make the world a better place.

The above section is a bit cringe-worthy. I’m almost considering deleting it all, but then I’ll have to start again, so you’re stuck with it. Anyway, it’s over now.

I’m not going to keep you on the hook waiting for the big reveal, so here it goes: The one thing that’s going to make you millions and millions is tapping into one emotional state:

Self-Consciousness.

Self-consciousness is the state you need to become really familiar with if you want to make money. Every single product and service has, as a root cause, a fundamental need that it addresses. I’m not saying anything new there – check out this article about base needs and money making.

However, let’s take it a step further: We all have our fundamental needs. They might be food and shelter, they might be sex and companionship, they might be the idea that we need to be recognised for our talent or personality. Whatever the need, those pesky marketers are going to get us in the end; it might be a course on how to make money from the stock market, it might be an aftershave that gets the girls or something else. You understand how that works.

If we want to create a successful business, then we need to be that meddling marketer. We need to tap into the needs our potential customers feel. So it’d be really handy if there was some sort of constant that occurs in all people that shows what it is they need, even if they don’t know it themselves.

Enter Self-Consciousness.

Enter Self-Consciousness

Self-consciousness is the trigger that binds every need, want and desire. If you were a guy and you walked into a room full of beautiful women, you’d suddenly feel self-conscious.

If, conversely, you were a guy and you walked into a room full of handsome men, you’d also feel self-conscious; but for completely different reasons and in a completely different way.

If you were from small town England and you moved to a town where everyone was a multi-millionaire and your Renault Clio had to sit next to Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s, you’d feel a slightly different breed of self-conscious.

But self-consciousness is the root of us recognising needs and desires.

(Of course, this doesn’t apply if you’re a super alpha-male or a super-independent female. You’re probably not triggered by anyone or anything, so you’ll just have to pretend to be a mere mortal like the rest of us.)

If you feel self-conscious, it’s because you’re becoming aware – either in reality or imagined – that you’re missing something, or you want something. If you can recognise this state in someone else, then you’ll know that they’re missing something or in want of something.

This is the root of creating great business ideas.

Self-Consciousness And Product Creation

One problem that people have with business is that they don’t have any ideas. Another problem is that they’ll go solely for things they’re interested in, and their whole networking system is also involved in the same thing, and the whole thing gets a bit like the Lannister family’s breeding rituals.

For instance, a guy wants to make money online. He doesn’t have any great ideas or experience, so he reads about making money online. Then he networks with other guys who are trying to make money online, and he writes a book about… you guessed it, making money online. He then tries to sell that book to the guys that know exactly the same information he does, and obviously fails.

So he goes down to the pub, and he says to the cute girl at the bar, “Hey… I just wrote a book. It’s about making money online.” She doesn’t care. She’s a librarian or hairdresser or whatever, and has no interest in his product.

Let’s do something different to that.

Let’s forget about making money online and writing books and whatnot. Let’s look at the girl from the bar. Let’s say she’s a hairdresser. She’s in a completely different market to you if you’re the “make money online” guy, but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t be your customer.

Think about the last time you spoke to a girl (I know, it was a long time ago.) If there’s one thing we can say about girls that shouldn’t draw the ire of the feminist brigade everywhere, it’s by pointing out the fairly factual statement that girls are a whirlwind of insecurity.

Girls feel self-conscious about the weirdest things (to guys.)

Where there’s self-consciousness, there’s the potential to fix a problem.

Say you’re speaking to a girl, and it turns out she’s self-conscious about how big her shoulders are. (This is a legitimate concern for some girls.) There are a ton of things you could think of to help a girl with this, and none of them involve trying to sling $57 ebooks to sleazy internet marketing crowds.

Immediately, you look into clothing for broad-shouldered girls. You look into accessories. You look into exercise regimes and dietary things. You look for broad-shouldered females that you can use as inspirational material. So on and so forth.

To move away from girls, let’s just assume you’re an introverted guy for a minute. Understand that extroverted guys have a whole host of self-consciousness episodes that you’ve probably never experienced – and vice versa.

Go on a site for men. There’s a guarantee that you’ll find some problem that other guys experience which you simply don’t care about.

My point is, that self-consciousness is where the first little idea for a product comes in, because a self-conscious person is a person with a need not being met.

Final Thoughts

I’ll leave this topic there for today, but I’ll come back to it. I started the article with a seed of an idea, and I’ve realised it’s a massive topic.

In short though, if you’re short on ideas, think about self-conscious people. Why would a person be self-conscious about a particular thing? What do people you know get self-conscious about? When a person is self-conscious, how could their need be met? When you see a product and you think, “Why would anyone by that?” think about how being self-conscious would lead them to buying that product and not another.

Once you get into the habit of analysing things for that tiny little hint of self-consciousness, then you’ll see how there’s a world of insecurities and needs that you can dip into to create business ideas.
