Niche Site Saturday Week 43

Hi guys,

It’s Week 43 of the Niche Site Challenge. We’re down into single-digits for weeks left in this challenge, which is crazy.

Anyway, the Niche Site Challenge is well-defined at this point. Check out this article if you’ve come across this article first.

Also – I’ve got bad eye strain in one eye, so I’m going to keep this article short and link to some other useful reading (if you simply have to read about niche sites on your Saturday evening.)

What I’ve Done This Week In The Niche Site Challenge

I’m still in search of the ability to create a niche site in a single day. I’ve tried a few times this week, but the task is somewhat insurmountable.

You can create a niche site in three days though. Easily. Or you could create a 10 page niche site – but I think that’s counter-intuitive because you’re going to have to come back to it later.

My current niche site template involves 34 articles plus the home page/about page and the like.

34,000 words for all of the articles is a tall order in one day. But I have managed to create another niche site by splitting the writing into three sets:

  • Product reviews/sales letters
  • How-to articles which link to the above
  • Compilation posts which a) point to the products and b) point back to the reviews

This is a pretty awesome structure. It just takes longer than a day to create!

Anyway, here’s some other stuff you should read if you’re building niche sites. We’ll reconvene next week.

Niche Site Stuff: Other Useful Articles

Amazon’s Affiliate Structure

Amazon changed their affiliate program free structure this week. Should you worry about this? Probably not – providing you’re creating value as an affiliate.

Read about my thoughts on this here.

A Reader Question on Writing About Products You Don’t Own

When it comes to writing niche sites, you’re probably going to end up writing about products you don’t own. Is this unethical? Probably not.

Jakub, reader and friend of the blog, asked about this, and I gave my best shot at answering here.

(By the way, it’s Jakub’s birthday today. Happy Birthday!)

Are Niche Sites Diworsifying Your Business?

Dennis, another blog buddy, linked an article about diversifying your business interests for the worse, and asked if niche sites were an example of this.

I answered here, and it was a pretty pertinent question because I’ve found writing about a ton of different subjects taxing recently. Anyway, in that article I gave a more in-depth answer about the topic and how to avoid worsening your business in the pursuit of niche site treasure.

Solving A Major Niche Site Problem

Here’s a final article for you to read, and I’ve saved the useful one until last.

The problem a lot of niche sites (at least mine) have is that reader retention is non-existent. This is a great thing when they quickly disappear to give you an affiliate sale, but not so great when they leave for other reasons and never come back.

In this article there’s a novel little solution that I’ve come up with. Try it if your sites suffer from the problem.

Final Thoughts

Alright, it’s a short one but that’s it for this week. Hopefully all your niche sites and other projects are going well, and I’ll be back next week for (hopefully) a better update.

I’m looking forward to after the challenge, because I’m going to share thoughts and experiences from this challenge. Looking back, it’s been a crazy little thing to do.

Anyway, see you next week. Thoughts, opinions, questions and experiences are always welcome in the comments!
