Upgrades as Niche Site Article Ideas

If you create niche sites (or authority sites) then there’s always a need for more, different or better content.

The best ideas often come when you’re searching for something as a customer and not thinking about business stuff.

This week, I stumbled upon just that. So here’s a new area for niche site article ideas that I’ve come up with in the past week.

Where There’s A Compromise, There’s An Opportunity

I’ve been searching for a new PC. My laptop is basically giving up on me. It’s a poor old thing and I run them into the ground. It works all day, every day and it’s lasted me for many years. Now the hard drive is starting to have issues and it takes forever to load up.

That’s not a problem.

The problem is that I need to get a new one.

This is tricky – because do I want a laptop again? Now I have a tablet and can do most of my work from that. (Unsurprisingly, typing stuff out isn’t that processor intensive.) I could just get a desktop PC for when I do super-intensive stuff and then have a tablet for when I need to move around.

So I could get a laptop. Or I could get a desktop. I could even try one of those two-in-one laptop/tablet things.

It might seem like this is a digression, but it’s not.

You see, I look at some of the offers and there’s always a compromise. You can get a desktop PC that’s £400 less which has less RAM and 1TB of HDD storage as opposed to 256GB SSD storage.

Now, for that £400 you can get a massive hard drive and the extra RAM and install it yourself. You’d still have money left over.

That brings me to my point.

Upgrades

Shops sell you upgrades all of the time. If you have a niche site, chances are you’ve never thought when you’re writing your reviews and how-to articles, “How do I make this better and can I sell that to people too?”

I certainly haven’t.

So, let’s say you have a niche website for computers. Let’s call it “Gaming computers on a budget.”

If you’re looking for niche site article ideas, then you could do a lot worse than say, “Hey… how do I take a budget option and make it better than a big ticket item?”

So for gaming computers (and bear in mind I don’t play computer games so examples are weak):

  • How to upgrade RAM
  • How to install a new graphics card
  • Do you need an optical drive or is that pointless?
  • What’s the best bang-for-your-buck in terms of upgrading a PC (list article)
  • What are the core, must have specs for a gaming PC
  • Can you upgrade the processor?
  • What’s the best set of HDD and SSD configurations?

The list goes on and would be really long if I knew what I was talking about. You can do this with pretty much every product and niche though.

Final Thoughts

What’s best about this is that as far as niche site article ideas go, you can always sell all of the options.

You can even link to them within your article.

“If you can’t afford super-duper option $$$… then you might want to try this.

Take the cheap option (which we review here) and add a pinch of (upgrade 1) and a little bit of (upgrade 2) and you’ll have an item that does what the premium item does for a lot less money but a bit more work.

It’s great if you want to tinker and build yourself a better option. If you don’t want to do the work, then you can go with basic, medium or expensive alternatives.”

No reader will look at that and think, “This person is trying to sell me stuff in an unfair manner.” Essentially, you’re giving people all the options they need and hopefully the information they need to make a decision.

As a bonus, you look like more of an authority if you not only know the products inside-out, but can recommend upgrades and other options. You don’t have to buy all the items to achieve this. You just need to know how it works.

Trust me… I’m 90% sure I could sell you all a new PC right now. With a few more weeks of research, I might know enough to buy one for myself too.
