Niche Site Saturday: Week 37

Time is marching on. I read the number “37” and realise we’re almost at the end of the year, and I’m still nowhere near the target I set for myself.

More on that in a moment.

It’s Week 37 of the Niche Site Challenge.

The Niche Site Challenge is a challenge I set myself (and others occasionally comment on it too) whereby I create niche sites under the following rules:

  • It’s part time. I’ll spend no more than two hours a day on this project.
  • I build 28 niche sites over the course of a year.
  • I try to make residual income (initial goal was $500 per site per month)
  • That income can only be attained by product reviews – no direct sales
  • No spending money on PPC; It’s organic traffic only

That’s the general gist of it. There are some big goals there that I’m not sure I’ll reach, but the main goal of this challenge is to do something and succeed where others won’t even take the plunge.

Of course, the above statement shouldn’t be considered as a back-track. Those are my goals, and I’m going to achieve them or try to.

In these weekly updates, I give random thoughts, an update on my progress and other bits of interest that I’ll find throughout the week.

What Have I Done This Week?

We’re two weeks into 2017. That’s 1/26th of the year gone already.  I’ve been working on major projects for most of this week, including the software business, sales letters and whatnot.

Today I planned on spending the day concentrating on the Niche Site Challenge, then I happened to stumble upon a great guide for learning Facebook Ads.

(I’ll be writing about that at another point… possibly only privately. Definitely on the secret island, probably on the mailing list. You know what to do.)

Anyway, launching a new business, writing sales letters for products that cost three-to-four figures and learning how to drive traffic to those letters has taken priority.

I still wrote ten articles for the various niche sites this week. However, they probably all need work.

For the sites I have established already, I’m going to limit those to twenty articles each for the rest of this challenge. For the new sites, I’m only going to plan and write twenty again by the end of the challenge.

Don’t get me wrong – to this point I have 28 niche site ideas that I’ve done the keyword research for and could easily write 100+ articles for, but it’s time to admit that I don’t have time.

It’s either that or hire out some of the writing. I’ll do that at some point in 2017, but not before the end of the challenge, most likely.

Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to. Ten articles and a whole load of unrelated stuff. Oh, and the Copywriting Challenge which has been taking up the vast majority of my time. Seriously, it’s ridiculous.

(Also, next week I have domain purchases coming up. That’ll mean actually launching some of these websites.)

Final Thoughts

I’d usually have links and random thoughts, but I’m fresh out of ideas as far as those go today. Also, I’ve got an evening in with Tested Advertising Methods otherwise you guys won’t get an article tomorrow.

Hopefully the New Year is treating you well and your niche site projects are going well.

See you next week for the next Niche Site Challenge update!
